The Great wall is one of the greatest
wonders of the world and is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1987.
The Great wall stretches approximately 8, 851.8 kilo meters (5,500 miles) from
East to West China. The wall we see today was mostly built during the Ming
dynasty in 1368-1644. Starting from the Hushan East West through Jiayuguan Pass
in Liaoning, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, in Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia,
Gansu and Qinghai he went through constant extensions and improvements in later
Dynasties. It began as independent walls for different States when it was first
constructed, and was not a "great" wall until the Qin dynasty.
Emperor Qin Shihuang succeeded in his effort to have the walls joined together
to fend off the invasion of the Huns in the North. Since then, the wall has
served as a monument of the Chinese nation throughout history. . With a history
of over 2000 years, some parts were in ruins or missing. However, it is still
one of the most interesting attractions in the entire world due to its grandeur
and historic architecture. The great wall was built in the spring and autumn
and warring States periods as a defensive fortification by the three States:
Yan, Zhao and Qin.
